      1. The general current word for trousers, worn as a kind of underwear in ancient times, is kù 褲.

      2. Kūn 褌 is a Han word referring to short trousers without a crotch.

      3. Qiā1n 褰 is an archaic word for crotchless trousers.

      NB: The question of trouser-underwear is controversial. HUANG TU 144 has a Zhou figure which might appear to be wearing underwear. Many scholars traditionally believed that there were no such things as trouser underwear.
