Old Chinese Criteria
[[[ 語 in 論語 is the relevant term. 世說新語 is a most relevant record.

But 語錄 are predominantly records of sayings rather than dialogues.

Records of inconsequential small-talk must be distinguished. They are certainly prominent in Ming literature, but not so much in evidence before. They are richly represented in Plato's dialogues.
