Modern Chinese Criteria
表示 is the most general word for expressing something. 闡明 focusses on the making plain and very clear for others what one expresses. 闡述 focusses on the act of transmission involved in the expression of something. 流露 "divulge" refers to expressing something that one should not necessarily have expressed. 表白 refers to expressing oneself, typically with the purpose of self-justification. 表明 focusses on the demonstrative side of expressing something. 表達 focusses on the efficacy of the transmission of what is expressed.
