1. There was no pissoir in ancient China. The hǔ zǐ 虎子 was a colloquial term for a tiger-shape flask into which to urinate in one's bedroom. NB: Terms like mǎtǒng 馬桶 and mǎzǐ 馬子 as well as biànhú 便壺 are all late.
