Old Chinese Contrasts
For the cultural interpretation dream in "primitive" cultures LINCOLN 1935 (REPRINT 1971) remains a useful point of departure.
LANGIUS 1631 summarises Graeco-Roman doxography on the matter.
ZEDLER's article TRAUMDEUTUNG and especially the extensive TRAUM provide splendid inspiration for comparative study.
For the Chinese case, BROWN 1988 remains the best guide with useful bibliographies. But note in particular the monograph SANTANGELO 1988. Wolfram Eberhard has a piece on the folklore of Chinese dreaming which I cannot seem to retrieve for the moment. For Ming dynasty Chinese dream literature, oneirography, see LACKNER 1985 as well as Eggert 1993.
