QUARREL
disceptatio refers to an intellectual disagreement which is cultivated for the purpose of finding the truth.
controversia refers to a reasoned disagreement where the parties place themselves on different sides of an issue for the purpose of discussion.
litigatio refers to a peaceful disagreement at the bottom of which there typically lies a deep conflict of interests.
contentio refers to an empassioned conflict of opinion where one party at least is using all means available to carry the day.
altercatio refers to an impassioned conflict of opinion where both sides insist on keeping the last word.
iurgium refers to an ill-tempered and impassioned conflict of opinion which finds lively expression in swearing and abuse as an expression of acute anger.
