唯願如來！當具宣示。 」
佛告阿難：
「乃往過去九十一劫，
時世有佛，號毘鉢尸，
佛既滅度，遺法在世。
後有諸比丘，遊行教化，
到一村落。
有諸人民豪賢長者，
見眾僧至，
各競供設衣被飲食，
無有乏短。
時有夫妻二人，貧餓困乏，
每自思念：
『我父在時，財寶積滿，
富溢難量；
今者我身貧困極甚，
坐臥草蓐，
衣不蓋形，
家無升斗，
何其苦耶？
爾時雖富，
財寶無量，
不遭斯等
聖眾之僧；
今既得值，
無錢供養。 』
