抱朴子答曰：
「古者猶以射擇人，
況經術乎？
如其舍旃，
則未見余法之賢乎此也。
夫豐草不秀瘠土，
巨魚不生小水，
格言不吐庸人之口，
高文不墮頑夫之筆。
故披《洪范》而知箕子有經世之器，
覽九術而見范生懷治國之略，
省夷吾之書，
而明其有撥亂之乾，
視不害之文，
而見其精霸王之道也。
今孝廉必試經無脫謬，
而秀才必對策無失指，
則亦不得暗蔽也。
良將高第取其膽武，
猶復試之以對策，
況文士乎？
假令不能必盡得賢能，
要必愈於了不試也。
今且令天下諸當在貢舉之流者，
莫敢不勤學。
但此一條，
其為長益風教，
亦不細矣。
