則毀而笑之曰，
彼小道耳，
不足算也。

所謂抱螢燭於環堵之內者，
不見天光之焜爛；
侶鮋鰕於跡水之中者，
不識四海之浩汗；
重江河之深，
而不知吐之者昆侖也；
珍黍稷之收，
而不覺秀之者豐壤也。
今苟知推崇儒術，
而不知成之者由道。
道也者，
所以陶冶百氏，
范鑄二儀，
胞胎萬類，
醞釀彞倫者也。
世間淺近者衆，
而深遠者少，
少不勝衆，
由來久矣。
是以史遷雖長而不見譽，
班固雖短而不見彈。
然物以少者為貴，
多者為賤，
至於人事，
豈獨不然？
