退無長生之效，
則莫不指點之曰，
彼修道如此之勤，
而不得度世，
是天下果無不死之法也；
而不知彼之求仙，
猶臨河羡魚，
而無網罟，
非河中之無魚也。
又五千文雖出老子，
然皆泛論較略耳。
其中了不肯首尾全舉其事，
有可承按者也。
但暗誦此經，
而不得要道，
直為徒勞耳，
又況不及者乎？
至於文子莊子關令尹喜之徒，
其屬文筆，
雖祖述黃老，
憲章玄虛，
但演其大旨，
永無至言。
或復齊死生，
謂無異以存活為徭役，
以殂歿為休息，
其去神仙，
已千億裏矣，
豈足耽玩哉？
