《融自敘》曰：
「融字季長，
右扶風茂陵人。
少而好問，
學無常師。
大將軍鄧騭召為舍人，
棄，遊武都。
會羌虜起，
自關以西道斷。
融以謂古人有言：
『左手據天下之圖，
而右手刎其喉，
愚夫不為。
何則？
生貴於天下也。
豈以曲俗咫尺為羞，
滅無限之身哉？ 』
因往應之，
為校書郎，
出為南郡太守。 」
