諸子百家之患，
起於思而不學；
世儒之患，
起於學而不思；
蓋官師分而學不同於古人也。
後王以謂儒術不可廢，
故立博士，
置弟子，
而設科取士，
以為誦法先王者勸焉。
蓋其始也，
以利祿勸儒術，
而其究也，
以儒術徇利祿，
斯固不足言也。
而儒宗碩師，
由此輩出，
則亦不可謂非朝廷風教之所植也。
夫人之情，
不能無所歆而動，
既已為之，
則思力致其實，
而求副乎名。
中人以上，
可以勉而企焉者也。
學校科舉，
奔走千百才俊，
豈無什一出於中人以上者哉？
