方今元日，
朝會上公。
上壽已，
文部尚書奏天下瑞凡四，
辨其名數曰大、曰上、曰中。
曰下公卿大夫畢賀而退，
惜其國家之大事，
帝王之休祥，
未列著述，
蓋闕如也。
遂徵諸圖史，
著《稽瑞》一篇。
考事以為對，
切對以為句，
并一對，
對下隨而解之。
往者隋顏之推賦《稽聖》一章，
凡數句之內辨識一事，
蓋詞多而事寡，
又非其文。
今之作一句一事，
其解則大者十餘家，
小者亦三四而已，
不求文理，
直紀休徵云。
